Conway – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears return home Saturday for a single match after a weekend on the road last week. The Sugar Bears will face off with the Abilene Christian Wildcats at 12:00 PM at the Prince Center.
The Sugar Bears (10-13, 4-7 SLC) look to shore up their Southland Conference tournament case over the final three weeks of the season, when every team they face sits either above them or even with them in the SLC standings. Central Arkansas currently ranks in the top three in the Southland in aces per set (1.38), blocks per set (2.25), and hitting percentage (.194), and sit fourth in assists per set (11.26), kills per set (12.25), and total blocks (191). Samantha Anderson lead the UCA attack, averaging 2.64 and 2.62 kills per set respectively. Tippett ranks seventh in the conference with 0.31 aces per set and second on the team 3.08 digs per set, while Anderson is third on the team with 0.92 blocks per set and a .236 attack percentage. Freshman
Elizabeth Armstrong sits seventh in the SLC with an average of 8.58 assists per set, while junior
Megan Nash ranks third in the league in total blocks (92) and fourth in blocks per set (1.10), while ranking fifth in hitting percentage (.291). Sophomore
Amanda Dimon leads the Sugar Bears with an average of 3.24 digs per set.
Abilene Christian (8-18, 7-4 SLC) split last weekend, falling in straight sets at Lamar, before picking up a 3-0 win of their own at Northwestern State. The Wildcats enter Saturday's match hitting just .141 on the year while surrendering a .208 attack percentage, and rank third in the conference in blocks per set (2.27) and fifth in aces per set (1.30). Sophomore Jacey Smith leads the ACU attack, ranking ninth in the Southland with an average of 2.86 kills per set, while fellow sophomore Kendall Bosse averages a team-high 7.53 assists per set. Defensively, freshman Amanda Chapa sits fifth in the SLC with 4.47 digs per set, and sophomore Lauren Walker is sixth with 1.08 blocks per set.
