BEARS TO FACE ANOTHER LEAGUE LEADER IN HUSKIES

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will face their second consecutive league leader on Tuesday night when they host the Houston Baptist Huskies.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Farris Ccnter.

UCA's last game, one week ago, was against Stephen F. Austin, which is 4-0 in the Southland Conference standings. HBU (10-7 overall) is one-half game ahead of SFA at 5-0 in league play.

The Bears are 1-3 in SLC play, with a home victory over the Lamar Cardinals on Jan. 9, just their third home game of the season. SFA beat UCA 85-64 last Tuesday, shooting 33 free throws to the Bears' seven. HBU is coming off a hard-fought 73-69 win over New Orleans last Saturday in New Orleans.

The Huskies are the top-shooting team in the SLC from the field, hitting 46.4 percent of their field goal attempts. UCA counters as one of the top perimeter shooting teams in the conference, standing third in three-point accuracy at 35.3 percent. Sophomore guard Jordan Howard is third in scoring (17.3 points per game) and three-point percentage (43.9) and is No. 1 in three-pointers made (47).

HBU features one of the top all-around players in the league in senior Anthony Odunsi, who began his career at Utah. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard is averaging 16.7 points (fourth), is eighth in free-throw shooting (84.6 percent) and was the SLC Player of the Week two weeks ago.

In last year's only meeting between the Bears and Huskies, HBU shot 64 percent in the second half and connected on 27 of 30 free throws (90 percent) to win 84-61 at Sharp Gym in Houston. Center Jake Zuilhof topped the Bears with 15, while Howard made 3 of 7 from three-point range. Odunsi had 15 points _ 9 of 10 from the line _ and was one of four players in double figures for the Huskies.

HBU's five victories in league play have been over teams that have a combined 3-18 record in SLC games. UCA's conference opponents thus far are 12-5, including a pair of undefeated teams (SFA, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).

Following Tuesday's game, the Bears will play three consecutive road games, at Nicholls (Saturday), at New Orleans (Monday) and at Northwestern State (Tuesday, Feb. 2).
