Logan, Utah – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team opened the 2015 season on Friday night, traveling to Logan, Utah to take on the Mountain West's Utah State Aggies. The Bears conceded an early goal and were unable to find an equalizer, dropping the match 1-0.
Utah State (1-0) netted what would prove to be the game winner in the 17
th minute, when Jordyn Chung-Hoon found Jessica Brooksby, who fired a rocket from 30 yards out to put the Aggies up 1-0.
Central Arkansas (0-1) looked to have evened the score in the 39
th minute, as
Ashley Smith beat the USU keeper, but the shot glanced off the post and out of bounds.
The Bears took four shots in the second half, but were still unable to knot the score.
Utah State outshot the Bears, 12-10 on the night.
Shelby Wilson,
Dayna Mounie,
Allie Moroney, and
Alex Moore all put a shot on goal for Central Arkansas.
Anna Hughes made three saves in goal for the Bears.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Sunday, when they take on the Wolverines of Utah Valley. Kickoff is set for noon.
