HOUSTON _ The Houston Baptist Huskies scratched out a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to escape with a 2-1 victory over the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Sunday at Husky Field.
   The Huskies (12-11, 4-2) completed the Southland Conference sweep after a pair of wins on Friday. UCA dropped to 11-7 overall and 6-3 in league play.
   HBU broke open a pitcher's duel with a run in the sixth off UCA starter Connor Gilmore, scoring on Samm Wiggins' RBI double to left center. UCA, which managed only three hits on the day, tied it with a run in the top of the ninth The Bears took advantage of three errors by the Huskies and scored on Logan Preston's bunt and a throwing error that allowed Matt Anderson to score and tie it.

   A one-out walk, a base hit and fielder's choice for HBU put Huskies at the corners in the bottom of the ninth. A two-out single up the middle by leadoff batter Zach Nehrir scored the game-winner.
   Gilmore, a junior from Little Rock, was solid with 7 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits, striking out three and walking four. HBU starter Curtis Jones went eight innings, giving up three hits, striking out seven and walking one. Junior Bo Stitch (3-1) took the loss for UCA.
   Nehrir was the only player in the game with multiple hits, going 2 for 4 in a game that lasted just 2:30.
   UCA returns home to host the UALR Trojans at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bear Stadium, beginning a four-game homestand that includes an SLC series against Sam Houston State that begins Friday.
