BEARS FALL AT ORAL ROBERTS

Tulsa, Okla. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday night, travelling to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. The Bears got their highest offensive output of the season so far, but it wasn't enough, as they fell 6-3.

Oral Roberts (5-6-2) grabbed a lead in the ninth minute, when Tarik Salkicic fielded a cross from Alex White and scoring from seven yards out for his second goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles added to their lead in the 30th minute. Edgardo Mira fired a shot that Central Arkansas keeper Harrison Veith saved, but the rebound fell to Davis Chimento, who knocked it in to push the ORU lead to 2-0.

Joey Kampmann helped Central Arkansas (1-13-1) cut into the Golden Eagles' lead in 37th minute, gathering a deflection from Daltyn Knutson and slamming it home for his first goal of the season.

The Bears struck again just three minutes into the second half, when William Woody fired a cross from the corner and found Wes Carson, who evened the match at 2-2 with his sixth goal of the season.

The match wouldn't stay tied for long though as ORU got goals from Javo Reyes and Salkicic over the next five minutes to take a 4-2 lead.

The Bears looked to rally again taking advantage of an ORU foul in the box to send Alejandro Moquete to the penalty spot. The junior converted, pulling Central Arkansas to within a goal, but that would be as close as the Bears would get.

Mira found the net in the 66th minute before Rafael Rivera capped the match's scoring in the 78th minute, putting the Golden Eagles up 6-3.

"Tonight's result was down to mental mistakes," said Central Arkansas head coach Ross Duncan. "We put ourselves under too much pressure with the decisions we made on the ball. Almost every goal was down to an error that gave them an opportunity to punish us."

On the night, the Bears put four shots on goal, getting one apiece from Kampmann, Carson, Moquete, and Tyler Ridener. In goal, Veith made six stops.

"Yes, we did some things well on the attacking end and created plenty four ourselves," said Duncan. "But to win games at the Division I level, we have to be much sharper with the balls in those important areas of the field."

Central Arkansas returns to MVC play on Saturday, hosting the Evansville Purple Aces at 2:00 PM at the Bill Stephens Complex. Prior to the match, the Bears will honor the careers of four players, as seniors Jacob Campbell and Daylon Schiffel and redshirt juniors Taran Meyer and Riley Cauley will be donning UCA's purple and gray for the final time at home. "We've got a huge game on Saturday," said Duncan. "The guys need to rise to the occasion. If we execute and stay tuned in, we will win. But it's going to take a group effort."
