Chicago, Ill. –The Central Arkansas men's soccer team hit the road on Saturday night for a Missouri Valley Conference match against the Loyola Ramblers on Saturday. The Ramblers got an early goal in the first half, before adding a pair of insurance goals in the second half to down the Bears 3-0.
Loyola (7-3-3, 2-1-1 MVC) opened the match's scoring in the 17
th minute, when Elliot Collier worked his way around four Central Arkansas (1-11-1, 0-3-0 MVC) defenders, into the box, and slid the ball inside the far post to give the Ramblers a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season.
The Ramblers added to their lead in the 62
nd minute, when Fabian Lifka fielded a deflected ball and slid it across the face of the goal just inside the far post to extend the Rambler lead to 2-0.
Loyola added an insurance goal in the 70
th minute, as Kevin Engesser fed Lifka, who blasted it just under the cross bar at the far post to make it 3-0.
"It was a tough contest for us tonight," said Central Arkansas head coach Ross Duncan after the match. "They got one in the first half, and that meant we were chasing the entire game. We came out well in the second half and got some early chances but couldn't convert. Loyola are a good side with veteran players. They were tough to break down but we created enough chances. We just got stretched as the game wore on."
On the night, the Bears put five shots on goal, led by
Chris Holmes, who was on target with both of his attempts, while
Daltyn Knutson,
Tyler Ridener, and
Jacob Jerles each put one shot on goal. In net for the Bears,
Harrison Veith made nine saves.
Central Arkansas returns home next weekend, taking on Bradley at 7:00 PM on Saturday. "We've got two home conference games coming up and that will be huge for us. Another full week of training will be nice too," said Duncan. "The group is coming along and continuing to develop every day. I'm excited to get back to work on Monday."
