Thibodaux, La. – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears returned to action on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Nicholls Colonels in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The Sugar Bears cruised to a sweep on the day, taking down the Colonels 25-20, 25-15, 20-23.
Central Arkansas (10-10, 6-2 SLC) hit just .114 in the first set, but took advantage of six total blocks and 15 digs to force Nicholls (5-13, 0-6 SLC) to hit an even .000 for the win in the set. Sophomore
Megan Nash (three kills) and freshman
Nicole Peters (four blocks) led the Sugar Bears in the set.
In the second set, the Sugar Bears upped their attack percentage to .312, as Nash and freshman
Samantha Anderson each hit north of .600, tallying five and two kills, respectively. Senior
Amy South marshalled the Central Arkansas attack in the set, handing out 11 assists.
The third set saw the Sugar Bears take advantage of yet another facet of the game, as they made it hard for the Nicholls attackers to get anything down. Central Arkansas racked up 26 digs in the set, led by eight from freshman
Allie Kemp and seven from senior
Corri Hunt.
While the Sugar Bears didn't have a player with double-digit kills on the day, they spread the wealth, with Schnars (nine kills), Anderson (nine), Nash (seven), and junior
Rachel Sharp (six) all chipping in on the Central Arkansas attack, which benefited from South's match-high 31 assists. Defensively, Kemp turned in a match-high 19 digs, while Hunt ended up with 10 and Peters had a match-high seven blocks.
The Sugar Bears are back on the road for a pair of matches next week, taking on Lamar at 7:00 PM on Thursday and Sam Houston State at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
