Norman, Okla. – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team continued its road trip on Sunday afternoon, heading to Norman, Oklahoma to battle the Oklahoma Sooners, who came into the match as the 20th-ranked team in the nation. The Bears were unable to contain the Sooners, falling 5-0.
Okalhoma (4-1-1) took the lead in the 21
st minute, as Shiloh Price tapped in an attempt from Caren Nelson on the goal line to put the Sooners up 1-0. Madeline Brem extended the Sooner lead in the 30
th minute, heading home a ball off of an OU free kick from Laura Rayfield, before Rasha Roberts made it 3-0 in the 40
th minute by slamming home a strike from the edge of the box.
Central Arkansas (3-2-1) held its own for much of the second half, before giving up a pair of goals just 25 seconds apart. In the 84
th minute, Devin Barrett put away a shot from the edge of the box, and half a minute later Brem found the back of the net from 15 yards out to make it 5-0 in favor of the Sooners.
The Bears managed just one shot against a stout OU defense, as Kate Koch fired a shot on goal in the 37
th minute. Freshman Anna Hughes took the loss in goal for the Bears, making five saves on the day, while Kaitlyn Fahmer and Kassadie Stade split time in goal for the Sooners. Fahmer made one save.
Central Arkansas returns to the field on Friday, heading to Springfield, Missouri to take on the Bears of Missouri State University.
