Conway – The Central Arkansas took the court twice on the first day of the Sears Sugar Bear Classic on Friday. The Sugar Bears opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, before falling 3-1 to Boise State in the last match of the day.
Against ULM (1-4) the Sugar Bears (1-4) hit .255 while picking up set victories of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-20. Middle blocker Alicia Dittrich led the way for UCA, hitting .467 and tallying a team-high 10 kills while adding five digs and three blocks. Amy South keyed the UCA offense, dishing out a match-high 30 assists, while Shelbee Berringer and Evie Grace Singleton turned in a team-high nine digs.
Against Boise State (2-4), the Sugar Bears hit .231. The Broncos took the first set 25-23 and the second set 25-20, before UCA rebounded to take the third set 25-16. Boise State wrapped up the win with a 25-14 win in the fourth. Singleton led the Sugar Bears with 15 kills, while Heather Schnars had 14 and Fulani Petties contributed 11. South dished out a match-high 49 assists, and Berringer had a match-high 14 digs.
Central Arkansas returns to the court tomorrow afternoon at three, wrapping up the Sugar Bear Classic against Tulsa.
