Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

LATE GOAL GIVES MEMPHIS WIN OVER BEARS

Conway – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team took the field at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex against regional rival Memphis on Tuesday night. The match was hotly contested, with momentum constantly shifting, though Memphis eventually secured the 1-0 lead.

Although Memphis (5-2-2) outshot Central Arkansas (2-6) 8-1 in the first half, the teams entered the break knotted at 0-0. The second half saw a much more aggressive attack, but it was the Tigers that would eventually break through, as Fakhry Khulfan collected a loose ball in the Central Arkansas box and fired a rocket from 15 yards out into the Central Arkansas goal for the game-winner in the 84th minute.

"We were organized for ninety minutes," said Bears head coach Ross Duncan following the match. "Guys were in the right spots, they made big plays, but we didn't generate enough attack to win the game. We created opportunities, but just couldn't quite hit the target. We had guys laying out, we had diving headers in the box with people clearing balls with their feet and it still didn't happen for us. So it's certainly not an issue of effort or commitment, so we've just got to keep going. We've got no choice but to stand up tomorrow and get back to it because we've got conference coming up."

Central Arkansas took eight shots on the night, but Logan Miller was the only Bear to put on target, placing one of his three attempts on goal. Memphis placed six of its 15 shots on frame, led by Khulfan, who was accurate on both of his shots.

Cody Uzcategui earned the win for Memphis, making one save, while Harrison Veith took the loss for the Bears, making five saves and allowing one goal.

Central Arkansas returns to Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday, travelling to Evansville, Illinois to battle Evansville. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM. "Conference is funny because it's a down year; at 2-6 we aren't in last place," said Duncan. "We want to win every single game we play, but conference play is a huge opportunity for us. We're going to have to manufacture some confidence with effort and heart and go up to Evansville and snag a win."
