Corpus Christi, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team travelled to Corpus Christi, Texas to open Southland Conference play on Friday night. A pair of goals within the game's first 12 minutes proved to be the difference, as the Islanders took down the Bears 2-0.
The Islanders (2-4-2, 1-0 SLC) got on the board in the fourth minute, as Jacey Love slammed home a rebound to put TAMCC up 1-0. TAMCC added an insurance goal in the 12
th minute, when Aulona Velaj fed Alyssa Miller, who slid it over the head of Central Arkansas keeper
Anna Hughes to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead.
Central Arkansas (4-4-1, 0-1 SLC) outshot TAMCC 13-10 on the night, though both squads put seven shots on goal.
Dayna Mounie and
Alex Moore each put two shots on target, while
Cassie Lange,
Kelsey Johnson, and
Brooke Ballard each added a shot on goal. Yvette Franco led the Islander attack, placing three of her five shots on goal, while Love, Miller, Velaj, and Hailey Sutton were each on target with one shot.
Megan Delaney earned the win for the Islanders, making seven saves to earn her fourth clean sheet of the season. Hughes took the loss for Central Arkansas, making five saves and allowing two goals.
Central Arkansas returns to the field on Sunday afternoon playing its first home match in over a month. The Bears will host the Lady Demons of Northwestern State at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
