SUGAR BEARS SWEEP ALABAMA A&M

Conway – The Central Arkansas volleyball team took the court for a final tune-up before Southland Conference play begins on Thursday night. The Sugar Bears picked up the victory over the Lady Bulldogs in straight sets, winning the first 25-14, the second 25-17, and the third 25-23.

The Sugar Bears (6-7) outhit the Lady Bulldogs (4-13) .260 to .115 on the night, led by Heather Schnars (.600) and Fulani Petties (.304). Schnars turned in a match-high 15 kills, while also adding three digs and a service ace. Petties, along with Evie Grace Singleton, had 12 kills. Kristine Hjembo, making her first start of the season at setter, turned in a match-high 34 assists and three service aces. Defensively, Shelbee Berringer led the way for the Sugar Bears, digging 18 Alabama A&M attacks while Singleton and Alicia Dittrich each had a pair of blocks.

Central Arkansas returns to the court on Thursday evening, traveling to Abilene, Texas to take on Abilene Christian at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, the Sugar Bears will head to San Antonio, Texas to battle Incarnate Word at 2:00 PM.
