SUGAR BEARS TAKE DOWN SAMFORD AND LSU AT FSU INVITATIONAL

Heather Schnars turned in the match-high in kills in both of UCA's wins
Tallahassee, Fla. – The Central Arkansas volleyball team returned to the court on Friday, travelling to Tallahassee, Florida to take part in the Four Points by Sheraton Seminole Volleyball Invitational hosted by Florida State. The Sugar Bears got off to a strong start in the tournament, beating Samford 3-0, before picking up their first ever victory over an SEC team, taking down LSU 3-2.

Against Samford (3-4), the Sugar Bears (3-5) won by set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-12 while hitting .333. Heather Schnars led the way offensively for the Sugar Bears, hitting .517 and tallying a match-high 18 kills, while Amy South dished out a match-high 33 assists. Defensively, Shelbee Berringer turned in a match-high 12 digs and Fulani Petties, Megan Nash, and South each had a team-high two blocks.

The afternoon match between the Sugar Bears and the Tigers (1-3) was a back and forth affair, as the teams traded sets throughout the match. Central Arkansas took the first set 25-18 and the third set 25-12, while LSU took the second set 25-14 and the fourth set 25-23 to force a decisive fifth set, which UCA won 15-13. Schnars and Petties each turned in a match-high 17 kills to lead the way for Central Arkansas, while South assisted on a match-high 55 assists. Berringer again had a match-high in digs, tallying 22, while Petties blocked a team-high three attacks.

Central Arkansas will wrap up its tournament appearance tomorrow morning, taking on host Florida State at 10:00 AM.
