Jonesboro – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team was back in action on Sunday afternoon, travelling to Jonesboro to take on in-state opponent Arkansas State. The Bears headed into the half trailing the Red Wolves 1-0, but got a pair of goals in the second half to secure the 2-1 victory.
Arkansas State (1-2) grabbed the lead in the 13
th minute, as Jena Kelley and Samhia Simao strung a pair of passes together to feed Mykel Ward, who slid the ball past Central Arkansas keeper Anna Hughes.
Following halftime, Central Arkansas (2-0-1) wasted little time in evening the score. In the 50
th minute, Cassie Lang fed a pass to Vanessa Randall who slammed a shot off of A-State keeper Amanda Lee's hands and into the net to know the score at 1-1. In the 86
th minute, the Bears got the game winner, as Shelby Wilson slid a pass to Allie Coleman on a breakaway. Coleman beat Lee in a 1-on-1 and found the back of the net to put the Bears up 2-1.
Each team took 13 shots on the day, and both placed six on target. Randall led the Bears by placing both of her shots on goal, while Wilson, Coleman, and Kate Koch each took a pair of shots and placed on goal. Simao took six shots for Arkansas State and placed two on goal, while Kelley and Ward each put one of their two shots on target.
Hughes made five saves to earn the win for the Bears, while Lee made four saves and took the loss.
Central Arkansas next travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a match against the University of Tulsa. The match will kick off at 1:00 PM.
