HAMMOND, La. — After a day off due to weather-related cancellations, Central Arkansas will resume play in the 2014 Southland Conference Softball Tournament on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. when the 6th-seeded Bears face 4th-seeded Stephen F. Austin in an elimination game at North Oak Park on the Southeastern Louisiana University campus.
It is the first game in what could be a three-game day for the Bears as they attempt to stave off elimination after falling to Northwestern State on Thursday.
The Bears (25-33) will face the Ladyjacks (24-26) for the third time this season, having won both of the regular-season meetings in Conway by scores of 7-6 and 7-3 before the series finale was called off due to rain. SFA finished the regular season by winning six of its final seven games, sweeping Lamar, taking two of three from Sam Houston State and beating Texas Southern in a non-conference game.
In their tournament opener, SFA lost 8-7 to Houston Baptist – jumping out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, then falling behind 8-4 before rallying late and getting a pair of runs and the tying run to second base.
The UCA-SFA winner will go on to face the winner of Sam Houston State and Houston Baptist in a game scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with that winner set to face the loser of McNeese State and Northwestern State at 9 p.m.
