SUGAR BEARS TROUNCE CENTRAL BAPTIST 72-39

CONWAY — Central Arkansas got a career-best 20 points and 11 rebounds from senior Brittany Agee and sophomore Maggie Proffitt connected on five first-half 3-pointers as the Sugar Bears rolled to a 72-39 win over Central Baptist in the Farris Center on Thursday for their second lopsided win in three nights.

Two days after winning on the road 62-36 at Alcorn State on Tuesday, the Sugar Bears (4-3) again had their way with the opponent on Thursday, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 42-24 in the first half before doubling them up 30-15 in the second en route to a victory over CBC for the sixth straight year.

UCA shot 45 percent compared to just 23.3 percent for CBC, doubling the Lady Mustangs in both field goals (27 to 13) and 3-pointers (8 to 4). The Sugar Bears had a 46-33 rebounding advantage and had 10 steals to just four for CBC. Six of those 10 steals came via sophomore guard Kelsey McClure, who also added a career-high nine rebounds and five assists.

Proffitt and sophomore Brianna Mullins played just a combined nine minutes in the second half, but combined for 25 points, four assists, six rebounds and three steals in the game.

"I'm happy with the win, but we know we're going to have to play better defense and play harder than we did tonight if we plan to win on Saturday against Southeast Missouri State," said UCA head coach Sandra Rushing. "I thought Agee came out and played really well, and I'm very happy with how Raquel Logan played. And, we got a chance to rest Bri and Maggie. McClure had a good offensive game, she's handing the ball well and making things happen but she's going to have to do more for us, and she will."

Junior Taisiya Novokreschenova had four points and six rebounds in 11 minutes in her most extensive action of the season, going down briefly with an injury but later returning to finish her best game to date in a UCA uniform.

"Taya came in and did some good things for us," Rushing said. "She showed some toughness there late in the game, getting taped up, coming back in and fighting through that to play well."

Freshman guard Angel Williams led the Sugar Bears with six assists, doubling her previous best. Junior guard Kendara Watts scored 10, her fifth consecutive game scoring in double figures. CBC, playing without leading scorer Audrey Moran, was led by Abbi Stearns' 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

UCA will host Southeast Missouri State at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Sugar Bears' final game before final exams next week. They will then travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech on Dec. 14.
