Corpus Christi, Texas – The Central Arkansas volleyball team was on the road for the first match of a three match road trip on Tuesday, travelling to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Sugar Bears dropped the first set, but rallied to win the next three, earning the 3-1 victory.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12-13, 5-3 SLC) outhit Central Arkansas (15-7, 10-0 SLC) .290 to .156 to take the first set 25-18, but the Sugar Bears took the second set 25-20 to even the match at 1-1. After the break, Central Arkansas took the third set 25-18, before securing the win with a 26-24 victory in the fourth set.
Evie Singleton led the Sugar Bears on the night, hitting .438 on her way to a career-high 26 kills and eight digs, while
Heather Schnars chipped in with 17 kills and 17 digs for her fourth double-double the past five matches. The Central Arkansas offense was paced by
Kristine Hjembo, who dished out a match-high 58 assists. On the defensive front, the Sugar Bears were led by Schnars' match-high in digs and
Megan Nash's three blocks.
The Sugar Bears continue their road swing this weekend, heading to Natchitoches, Louisiana on Thursday night to take on Northwestern State at 7:00 PM. Central Arkansas will then travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to battle Stephen F. Austin at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
