The Central Arkansas women's volleyball team opened the 2013 UCA/Sears Sugar Bear Classic in style on Thursday night, taking down the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions by a score of 3-0.
The Sugar Bears (3-1) hit .370 for the match, taking the first set 25-11, the second set 25-14, and the third set 25-13 while hitting .438,.481, and .233 respectively. UAPB (0-7) hit just .114 for the match.
Central Arkansas was led offensively by Heather Schnars, who had 11 kills, nine service aces, and five digs. Fulani Petties had six kills and a block, while Alicia Dittrich had four kills and three aces. Marissa Collins dished out 22 assists and Amy South added eight more. Whitney Harris led the Lady Lions (0-7) with five kills and Jordan Foyer distributed 14 assists.
The Classic continues all day tomorrow in the Prince Center. Jackson State and UT-Pan American will open the day's matches at 10:00, followed by UAPB and UL-Monroe at noon. The Sugar Bears will take the court against Jackson State at 2:00 pm; followed by UT-Pan American and UAPB at 4:00 pm. Central Arkansas will close out the day by battling UL-Monroe at 7:00 pm
The tournament will wrap up with four games on Saturday. UAPB and Jackson State take the court at 10:00 am, followed by UT-Pan American and UL-Monroe at noon. UL-Monroe will face off with Jackson State at 5:00 pm, before Central Arkansas and UT-Pan American finish the Classic at 7:00 pm.
