The Central Arkansas women's soccer team hit the road on Sunday, making the trip to Natchitoches, Louisiana to face off with Southland Conference foe Northwestern State. The Bears took advantage of three first half goals to defeat the Lady Demons and improve to 2-0-0 in SLC play, marking the first time that the program has ever won started the conference schedule 2-0-0.
Shelby Wilson got the scoring started in the 16
th minute, working her way down the middle of the field past two Northwestern State (3-7-1, 1-2-1 SLC) defenders and rifling a shot home from 18 yards out. Adriana Lucar gave Central Arkansas (5-3-2, 2-0-0 SLC) some insurance in the 22
nd minute, converting on a penalty kick to push the Central Arkansas lead to 2-0. Lucar found the back of the net again in the 26
th minute, collecting a pass from Haley Montgomery and blasting a goal from 22 yards out to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Bears.
Lucar and Wilson led the Central Arkansas offense, with each placing both of their shot attempts on goal. Brooke Ballard, Grace Purtle, and Sara Perlman each attempted a shot. Shelby Balmer, Louise Enberg, and Camila Ardila each took three shots for Northwestern State, combining to put three shots on target. Kaitlyn Keith and Lyndzey Goff combined for the shutout, each making two saves in 45 minutes of play. Jessica Danku was in goal for the Lady Demons, making one save and allowing three goals.
Central Arkansas stays on the road next weekend, traveling to Texas to play a pair of new Southland Conference members. The Bears will be in Abilene on Friday night, facing off with Abilene Christian at 4:00 pm, before heading to San Antonio to battle Incarnate Word at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
