The Central Arkansas women's soccer team opened Southland Conference play on Friday night, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex. The Bears knocked off the Islanders 2-1 to pick up their first conference win of the season.
Central Arkansas (4-3-2, 1-0-0 SLC) took the lead in the 13
th minute, as Kristin Pollard collected a deflected shot from Brooke Ballard and putting it away for her first goal of the season. The Islanders (1-8-0, 0-3-0 SLC) got an equalizer in the 34
th minute, when Hannah Joseph found Alyssa Miller on a breakaway. Miller beat the Central Arkansas keeper to knot the score at 1-1. Brooke Ballard put the Bears ahead for good in the 75
th minute, gaining control of a deflection and slamming it home to put Central Arkansas ahead 2-1.
Adriana Lucar led Central Arkansas offensively, placing four of her six shots on goal. Ballard placed two of her three attempts on target, scoring once and adding an assist. Miller placed one of her three shots on goal for the Islanders, while Meghan Cordero put one of her two shots on frame.
Kaitlyn Keith played the first half in goal for Central Arkansas, making one save and allowing one goal. Lyndzey Goff played the second half, making one save. Audrey Baldwin made six saves and allowed two goals in net for the Islanders.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Natchitoches, Louisiana to play Northwestern State. The match is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 pm.
