NATCHITOCHES, La. — Central Arkansas limited Northwestern State to three hits on Sunday, but the Bears managed only four of their own and were unable to get on the scoreboard as they suffered a 1-0 setback to the Lady Demons.
After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, the Bears dropped the decisive third game of the series on Sunday to fall to 24-14 overall and 7-7 in Southland Conference games, while Northwestern State improved to 29-9, 9-5.
On Sunday, the teams were locked in a scoreless tie after five and a half innings, but the Lady Demons broke through with the game's only score in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single from Brianna Rodriguez to score Shenquia Abby from second.
With two down in the top of the seventh, Sam Forrest reached base with a single back up the middle, and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, but got no closer as Melissa Bryant went down swinging to end the game.
The Bears will travel to Springfield, Mo. on Tuesday to play Missouri State before hosting Southern Arkansas on Wednesday. The Bears' next Southland series at home will be April 20-21 against Southeastern Louisiana.
