BEARS TAKE DOWN TIGERS IN EXTRAS

Sam Forrest drove in the game-winning run in the tenth inning
Memphis, Tenn. –

The Central Arkansas softball team took a break from Southland conference play on Tuesday, traveling to Memphis, Tennessee to face off with the Memphis Tigers. The Bears (28-15) picked up the win, taking down the Tigers by a score of 1-0 in ten innings.

Neither team was able to get on the board until the tenth frame, when Central Arkansas was able to scratch out a run. First baseman Ashley Boswell got the inning started with a single to left field. Cristin Curl came on to run for Boswell, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by designated player Taylor Dear. A groundout by centerfielder Amy Gunnells advanced Curl to third before right fielder Sam Forrest ripped a single back up the middle to plate Curl and give Central Arkansas the 1-0 lead. A 1-2-3 inning by starter Kelsie Armstrong sealed the win.

Armstrong (21-9) got the win for the Bears, throwing all ten innings without surrendering a run. She held the Tigers (20-29) to only seven hits while giving up one walk and striking out nine. Ellen Roberts (11-19) took the loss for Memphis, allowing one run in 10 innings of work. She gave up nine hits and struck out four without issuing a walk.

Forrest was one of three Bears to collect two hits on the day. Boswell and shortstop Lissa Avitia also picked up a pair of base knocks.

The Bears return to action tomorrow evening, playing host to Arkansas-Monticello at 6:00.
