The Central Arkansas volleyball team got a busy day for Central Arkansas athletics started off on the right foot on Saturday, welcoming Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to the Prince Center. The Sugar Bears won the first set 25-20, and the second set 25-22 before TAMCC rebounded to take the third set 25-20. The two teams battled hard in the fourth set, with Central Arkansas eventually getting the 26-24 win to earn the 3-1 victory in the match to improve to a perfect 11-0 in SLC play.
Scout Brooks was one of three Sugar Bears to record double-digit kills, turning in a team-high 13 in addition to six digs and three blocks. She was joined in double figures by Heather Schnars, who had 12 kills, 13 digs, and two aces, and Fulani Petties, who tallied 11 kills, two blocks, and her first ace in a Central Arkansas uniform. Marissa Collins continued her run of spectacular play at the setter position, dishing out 49 assists, digging up 11 balls, and recording two blocks. Alicia Dittrich and Shelbee Berringer marshaled a Central Arkansas defense that held the Islanders to a .181 hitting percentage, with Dittrich recording six blocks and Berringer digging a match high 19 balls. Ashley Phelps had a big day offensively for TAMCC, recording a match-high 21 kills and adding three blocks, and Logen Bourque dished out 43 assists. Ivy Baresh led the Islanders with 15 digs.
Central Arkansas hits the road on Tuesday to begin a five game road trip. The Sugar Bears will face off with Stephen F. Austin at 6:00 pm Tuesday night in Nacogdoches, Texas, before heading to Beaumont, Texas to play Lamar at 7:00 pm on Halloween night. Central Arkansas will then head to Huntsville, Texas to square off against Sam Houston State at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
