The Central Arkansas women's played the first of a three game road trip on Friday night, facing off with the Sam Houston State Bearkats. The Bearkats took the early lead and Central Arkansas had a late goal waved off to give Sam Houston the 1-0.
Sam Houston (6-7-1, 4-3-0 SLC) took a 1-0 lead in the 35
th minute Shelby McDaniels fired a shot towards the Central Arkansas (6-7-2, 3-4-0 SLC) net. Kaitlyn Keith dove to make the save, but could not secure the ball, allowing Shannon Shields to take another shot, which sailed into the back of the net to give the Bearkats the lead. It appeared as though Central Arkansas had found the equalizer in the 79
th minute, as Marisela Chavez fired a shot home, but the goal was waved off on an offsides call. The Bears were unable to find a goal in the game's final ten minutes, falling to the Bearkats 1-0.
Central Arkansas outshot Sam Houston 18 to ten on the night, but the Bearkats were on target with all ten of their attempts while the Bears were on target with seven shots. Adriana Lucar was on target with three of her five shots, while Chavez, Cassie Lange, Alex Wurst, and Shelby Wilson each had a shot on goal. Shields and Katie Ferrara each had two shots on goal on two attempts, and the Bearkats got shots on goal from six other players. Kaitlyn Keith was in goal for the Bears, making nine saves and allowing a single goal, while Kylie Hambleton made seven saves and held the Bears scoreless for Sam Houston.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Sunday afternoon, heading to Houston, Texas to battle Houston Baptist at 2:00 pm.
