WOMEN'S SOCCER BEATS UALR FOR FIRST TIME EVER

Maddi Poteet had an assist on the Bears' first goal Wednesday afternoon
Conway, Ark. –

The Central Arkansas Women’s Soccer program accomplished something they had never been able to do before on Wednesday evening, beating the UALR Trojans 4-1.

The Bears (6-1-0) got on the board early, when Maddi Poteet took a cross from Adriana Lucar and fed it to Elizabeth Brady, who slipped it past the keeper for her first goal of the season. Central Arkansas extended their lead in the 37th minute when Vanessa Randall collected a rebound of her own shot and planted it in the back of the net from eight yards out for her first goal of the season. The Bears extended their lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute when Brady fed the ball to the middle of the box, where Lucar corralled it and knocked it home for her ninth goal of the season.

The Trojans (0-5-0) got on the board in the 56th minute, when Paige Mason fielded a pass from Ariel Galletti and put it in from five yards out. The Bears responded quickly, however, when Brooke Ballard knocked home the ball off of a Vanessa Randall corner kick in the 61st minute for the game’s final goal.

The Bears were led offensively by Randall, who placed three of her four shots on goal, and Sara Perlman who placed one of her shots on goal. The Trojans were led by Mason who placed both of her shots on goal, and Ashley Asuncion, who also had two shots.

In goal for the Bears, Kelsey Gochnauer made four saves in 45 minutes of play and Lyndzey Goff made one save and allowed one goal in 45 minutes. For the Trojans, Shantel Wittkemade four saves and allowed four goals in 68 minutes in goal and Natalie Marsh made three saves in 21 minutes of play.

The Bears return to the field this weekend traveling to Edwardsville, Illinois to battle SIE-Edwardsville on Friday and Jonesboro, Arkansas to face off with the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
