Conway, Ark.-
The Central Arkansas men’s soccer team waited out the rain Saturday afternoon, but they were unable to get the victory when they finally took the field, falling 1-0 to Lipscomb University.
Despite multiple scoring opportunities the Bears (2-1-0) failed to net a goal, falling victim to shots off of both the cross bar and the post, as well as two team saves by Lipscomb. Central Arkansas coach Ross Duncan said, “It’s obviously a frustrating result based on what happened for 90 minutes. We had probably ten legitimate chances.” In an effort that prompted Duncan to say “Credit to Lipscomb, they withstood everything we had, and scored a great goal,” Lipscomb (1-2-0) got an 80
th minute goal when Omar Djabi fielded the ball to the right of the goal and blasted it into the top left corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
The Bears had a shot early, when Mickey Segura gained space 20 yards from the goal and blistered a shot, only to see it ricochet off the crossbar. They were led offensively by Manuel Montal who placed four of his six shots on goal, and Taylor Hart, who came off the bench to take three shots, one of which was on goal, although all three we legitimate scoring chances. of the net. Lipscomb were led offensively by Djabi, who was the Bison to take multiple shots, placing one of his two on goal.
In goal for the Bears, Patxi Shortsleeve stopped one of the two shots that he faced, while Jon Schnurbusch recorded five saves on the day.
“I thought we did everything we needed to do to win today, but it was just one of those games where nothing works. We’re going to come back Monday chomping at the bit, guys are angry and upset about today; I’m looking forward to it,” said Duncan in reference to the Bears next home game, which takes place Monday afternoon against Oral Roberts University.
