WOMEN'S SOCCER GIVES UP EARLY GOAL, FALLS TO LOUISIANA TECH FOR FIRST DEFEAT

Abby Hodgson and the Bears suffered their first defeat of the season Sunday afternoon
Conway-

Sunday afternoon proved to be an interesting afternoon for a soccer match, at the Central Arkansas Bears and the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters battled in conditions ranging from clear to pouring down rain. When all was said and done though, Louisiana Tech (3-0-0) was able to serve the Bears (3-1-0) with their first defeat of the season

The only goal of the match came in the 16th minute, when Mo Rockwell pushed the ball forward to Laura LeFevour. As Central Arkansas keeper Kelsey Gochnauer was charging to make a play on the ball, LeFevour was able to slip the ball to Rosie Lethbridge, who slid the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Not long after Lethbridge’s goal, the rains came to Conway, although they did little to slow the pace of play. Playing the remainder of the first half, and the majority of the second half in a downpour, the team still combined for 22 shots on the day, placing a combined 13 on goal.

Junior Kristin Pollard led the charge for the Bears, placing two of her four shots on goal. Adriana Lucar and Marisela Chavez both placed both of their shots for the day on goal. Emily Brennan led the way for the Lady Techsters, placing two of her three shots on goal, with Lethbridge place both of her shots on goal.

Two keepers again saw significant minutes for the Bears, with Gochnauer playing the first half for the Bears, and Lyndzey Goff making three saves in the second half. Caitlin Updyke played all 90 minutes in goal for Louisiana Tech, making nine saves on the day.

The loss ends Central Arkansas’ three game winning streak to open the season, their longest streak since winning three matches in a row from September 2nd to September 11th of last season. The Bears return to the pitch Friday afternoon, taking on Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena, Mississippi before traveling to Huntsville, Alabama to battle Alabama State on Sunday afternoon.
