BEARS TAKE EARLY LEAD, NEED OVERTIME TO SECURE VICTORY

Michael Quinn gave the Bears an early lead on Fraday Night
Chicago, Ill.-
The Central Arkansas men’s soccer team got the season off on the right foot Friday night, taking an early lead, and scoring an overtime goal to grab a victory over the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers.

The Bears (1-0-0) grabbed a lead in the 15th minute when senior Michael Quinn headed a cross from Mickey Segura home. The Bears’ advantage stayed at a goal until late in the first half when the Ramblers (0-1-0) found an equalizer in Andrew Raymonds’ ten yard blast. Despite a second half that saw the teams combine for 11 shots, the score remained knotted at one through the remainder of regular play. Less than two minutes into extra time though, the Bears ended that match when Manuel Montero tapped in a cross from Ethan Miller from two yards away.

Central Arkansas took 13 shots on the day, placing eight on goal. They were led by Miller, who placed all three of his shots on goal, and Daniel Sampedro who placed two of his three shots on goal. Loyola-Chicago placed five of their 11 shots on
goal, led by Raymonds and Brian Bement who took three shots a piece.

Patxi Shortsleeve was in goal for the Bears, making four saves on the day. In goal for the Ramblers, Tim Dobrowolski made six saves.

The Bears return to the field Sunday, facing off with the Western Illinois Leathernecks at 11:00 in the morning. Next weekend, the Bears open their home schedule by playing host to Lipscomb University on Friday afternoon and Oral Roberts University on Sunday afternoon.
