Though they have secured a spot in their first-ever Southland Conference tournament, the UCA softball Bears enter the final weekend of the regular season playing for seeding – with every position from 3-6 in play.
The Bears (35-19, 11-7 Southland) travel to McNeese State (31-18, 11-7) in a battle of teams tied for third. Those two are just a game ahead of UTSA and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who are 10-8.
The Bears and Cowgirls begin the series tonight at 6 p.m., and finish tomorrow at 1 p.m. Follow the action via McNeese's
live stats and
video.
The top two positions in the tournament are out of reach for UCA, as Texas State and Sam Houston State (who play each other this weekend) are 16-2 and 14-4, respectively, in conference play.
With a sweep of the Cowgirls, the Bears would assure themselves the third seed and would play the No. 6 seed Thursday afternoon at 1:30 in San Antonio.
UCA would own a tiebreaker over McNeese by virtue of having a 2-2 record against the league's top two teams to McNeese's 1-3 mark, but would not have the tiebreaker over either UTSA or TAMUCC, as both the Roadrunners and Islanders swept the Bears.
UTSA wraps up its regular season on the road at Stephen F. Austin (16-31, 6-12 Southland), while the Islanders are at Nicholls (13-30, 7-11).
