CONWAY — The Central Arkansas Bears won their second game in as many days Wednesday night, beating Louisiana-Monroe 5-0 to tie the school record for wins in a season with 29.
A night after defeating Division III Hendrix College 18-1, the Bears (29-17) managed to avoid any sort of hangover as they stepped back to Division I play against the Warhawks (16-17).
The bottom of the second saw the majority of the Bears’ offensive work for the second night in a row.
With one on, center fielder Kelvon Greer began a two-out rally with an infield single, moving right fielder Katie McGregor to second base. Second baseman Stephanie Lasley followed with an infield single, loading the bases for left fielder Nicole Beals. Beals laced a double to left field, plating McGregor and Greer. Shortstop Lissa Avitia added some insurance for the Bears by driving the ball into the right-center field gap for another two-run double.
Central Arkansas would add another run in the sixth inning, when Beals singled through the left side, scoring McGregor from third.
The five runs would prove to be more than enough for Central Arkansas starter Kelsey Armstrong (17-10) who threw seven scoreless innings while striking out seven Warhawks and allowing only two hits for her 21st complete game of the season. Armstrong's 17 wins ties her 2010 mark for second most in a season in school history. Haylie Wilson (9-3) got the loss for ULM as the Warhawks fall to 5-3 against Southland competition this season.
UCA returns to action against conference foe Nicholls State this weekend in Conway. Games are scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday and noon on Saturday.
