UCA's new all-time home runs leader, Kasey Britt, and the rest of the Bears are back at home Tuesday against UAPB.
CONWAY, Ark. – For the second time in a week, the UCA Bears will take on the UAPB Lady Lions in a softball doubleheader. UCA will look for the same success they had in last week’s doubleheader sweep of UAPB, but this time on the home turf at Farris Field.

In last Wednesday’s meeting with the Lady Lions, the Bears pounded out 28 runs on 30 hits, en route to 11-0 and 17-0 victories. Meanwhile, Bear pitchers stifled UAPB bats for just four hits while shutting them out.

UCA is coming off a weekend where they went 3-2 overall at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Classic. UCA picked up wins over Robert Morris and Bradley on Friday before dropping games to Georgia State and Indiana on Saturday. The Bears finished their trip off with a 7-4 win over Saint Louis on Sunday morning.

The Bears used four home runs to score all seven of their runs in Sunday’s win. The first home run of the game, a grand slam off the bat of Kasey Britt, made the senior from Florence, Miss. the all-time home runs leader in UCA’s history with 24. She surpassed Marquita Smith who lettered for the Bears from 2003-06.

Britt is just six RBI away from becoming the school’s all-time leader in that category as well. Smith is currently the all-time leader with 122. Britt enters tomorrow’s doubleheader with 117 RBI in her career. Britt is also second all-time in doubles and hits and currently holds the highest all-time on base percentage with a mark of .411 and is sixth all-time in batting average (.321).

UAPB is comes off a weekend in which they fell to Southland foe UT Arlington, 2-0 and future Southland member Houston Baptist, 1-0 and 4-3. The Lady Lions also dropped a pair of games to Drake and are still in the hunt for their first victory of 2012.

Tuesday’s doubleheader will mark just the second home date of the season for UCA. The Bears won their lone home game this season last Tuesday against Louisiana Tech by the score of 4-3. Last Tuesday’s crowd of 272 was the fifth largest in Farris Field History.

Admission to UCA softball games is free to the public and first pitch of tomorrow’s opening game is set for 5 p.m.
