The Central Arkansas Sugar Bear volleyball team was in dominant form on Thursday night, defeating the Northwestern State Lady Demons in straight sets.
The Sugar Bears (26-4, 14-3 SLC) hit .234 on their way to set victories of 25-20, 29-27, and 25-21. Jessica Hays was the focal point of the Central Arkansas attack, ending the match with 17 kills, three digs, two blocks, and an ace. Jessica Nagy had nine kills and Scout Brooks had eight kills and six digs. Marissa Collins keyed the Sugar Bear attack, dishing out 43 assists to go along with nine digs and five blocks. Shelbee Berringer led the team with 14 digs.
Northwestern State (20-9, 12-5 SLC) hit only .083 on the night, led by Mackenzie Neely, who hit .300 on her way to eight kills. Caiti O’Connell led the Lady Demons with 11 kills, while Keelie Arneson led the way with 11 kills. Emily Sweet distributed 25 assists while also collecting five digs, three blocks, and an ace.
The Sugar Bears wrap up Southland Conference play on Saturday afternoon, battling Stephen F. Austin at 2:00. The day will also serve as Senior Day for Central Arkansas, who will celebrate the careers of Jessica Hays and Taylor Hammonds.
