SUGAR BEARS SWEEP LAMAR TO MOVE TO 19-1

Alicia Dittrich hit .625 with 11 kills on Saturday
Conway, Ark. –

The Central Arkansas volleyball team defeated the visiting Lamar Cardinals in straight sets on Saturday, pushing their record this season to an astonishing 19-1 through the season’s first twenty games.

After trailing 3-2 in the first set, the Sugar Bears (19-1, 7-1 SLC) would take the lead and refuse to give it back, not trailing for the rest of the match on their way to set victories of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-18. Central Arkansas hit .453 on the day, led by Alicia Dittrich and Taylor Hammonds who hit .625 on their way to 11 and five kills, respectively. Scout Brooks led Central Arkansas in kills, collecting 13, to go along with five digs and .500 hitting percentage. Jessica Hays turned in 11 kills, eight digs, two service aces, and a block. Marissa Collins keyed the offense, dishing out 42 assists, and Shelbee Berringer helped pace the defense with 11 digs.

Lamar (9-12, 1-6 SLC) hit .133 for the match. Sierra Whittaker was the only Cardinal to hit above .231 on the day, turning in a percentage of .467 on her way to a team-high eight kills. Cortney Moore, Wendy Krell, and Christina Moore each contributed five kills. Alex Morford tallied 24 assists on the day, while Erika Rojas had seven digs.

The Sugar Bears take a break from Southland Conference play on Monday night, visiting Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri. Next Saturday at 5:00 in the evening, Central Arkansas returns to conference play, hosting Oral Roberts in the Golden Eagles’ first trip to Conway as a member of the SLC.
