SUGAR BEARS DROP 5 SET MATCH TO ORAL ROBERTS

Scout Brooks had 15 kills

The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears dropped only their second conference match of the season, falling 3-2 to Oral Roberts on Tuesday night.

The teams traded sets on the night, with Oral Roberts (11-12, 7-5 SLC) taking the first set 25-21, the third set 25-16, and the decisive fifth set 15-11. Central Arkansas (22-3, 10-2 SLC) took the second set 25-17 and the fourth set 25-22. On the night, the Sugar Bears hit .201, led by Taylor Hammonds who hit .421 with 11 kills. Jessica Hays led the team in kills with 18. Scout Brooks was the only other Sugar Bear with double-digit kills, tallying15. Marissa Collins keyed the Central Arkansas offense, distributing 57 assists, and Shelbee Berringer turned in 19 digs. The Golden Eagles hit .230 for the match, led by Tatum Fredeen, who hit .414 on her way to a team high 14 kills. Joana Gruber and Sheina Fernandes were the other two ORU players who collected double-digit kills, turning in 11 and 10 kills respectively. Fernandes and Sadie Schaffner each turned in eight blocks. Laura Taylor dished out 39 assists.

The Sugar Bears return to the Prince Center this weekend, looking to get back to their winning ways. Thursday night at 7:00, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes to town, looking to build on their September 13, 3-2 victory over Central Arkansas. On Saturday afternoon at 4:00, Central Arkansas faces off against Sam Houston State.
