UCA FALLS 2-1 AT LAMAR

Alexandra Wurst scored UCA's only goal on Friday at Lamar
BEAUMONT, Texas _ The Lamar Lady Cardinals got the go-ahead goal from Kimmy Albeno in the 55th minute Friday night to down the University of Central Arkansas Bears 2-1 in Southland Conference play at the Lamar Soccer Complex.

UCA (9-5-1, 1-3-1) had tied the game on Alexandra Wurst's penalty kick in the 48th minute. But Albeno found an opening in the middle to give the Lady Cardinals the victory. Albeno set the school single-season goals record with her ninth of the season.

"We did a really good job keeping them out of there all night,' said UCA head coach Jeremy Bishop. "We were just a little slow that time and it was a good job of  finishing it on her part.

"We're frustrated right now because we are doing a lot of really good things. We're keeping possession, we're doing a good job of defending, we're getting good scoring changes. We just can't seem to find the net. They (Lamar) had three shots on goal and scored twice, where we had eight and scored once.'

Lamar (7-7-1, 3-1-0) took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on Jannet Hernandez' goal in the 39th minute. After UCA's Adriana Lucar was tackled in the box, Wurst came on and nailed the penalty kick to tie it at 1-1 at the 47:23 mark.

The Bears had a couple of solid scoring changes after that but came up short. Kristin Pollard's shot off a pass from Lucar just missed and hit the side of the net. Pollard served a ball to Brooke Ballard but she just missed the header.

UCA outshot Lamar 12-10, with Lamar goalkeeper Bailey Fontenot recording seven saves. Kelsey Goshnauer and Lyndzey Goff split time in goal for the Bears, with both allowing one goal. Goff had one save in the second half.

The Bears play at Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. Sunday in Hammond, La.
