CONWAY — Central Arkansas limited Mississippi Valley State to just one shot on Sunday, and took 26 of its own with 15 coming on goal. Unfortunately for the Bears, MVSU goalkeeper Kristin Swanson was there to make saves on all 15 – including 11 in the second period – and the teams finished in a scoreless tie.
The Bears (4-4-1) had 11 different players put shots on frame, led by three from Alex Wurst and two each from Hailey Haynes and Marissa Hicks; but were kept off the scoreboard for the second match in a row.
MVSU (0-4-2) was unable to mount any attack against the Bears, failing to record a shot in regulation and getting its lone attempt in the first overtime period.
The game marked the fourth shutout for the Bears this season.
It was the final non-conference tuneup before Southland Conference play begins for the Bears next weekend. Nicholls comes to town on Friday for a 4 p.m. start and Southeastern Louisiana, last season's league champion, will visit on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.
