UCA Concludes Holiday Inn Express Tournament with Convincing 3-0 Win Over Alcorn State

Jessica Nagy tied a career-high with six aces in Saturday's 3-0 win over Alcorn State.

NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana. – The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team finished off its trip to the state of Louisiana this weekend with a 25-12, 25-8, 25-8 sweep over the Alcorn State Braves Saturday morning.

UCA (5-7) made quick work of the Braves as the match took just under one hour to complete. The Sugar Bears held Alcorn State (1-12) to a porous hitting percentage of -.019 while striking a red-hot and season-best .403, including a third-set mark of .579.

Senior setter Lauren Dear took the reins at the setter position Saturday morning and led her team with 31 assists, three kills and six digs. The three kills and six digs were career-bests while the 31 assists were just one shy of her career mark of 32 which came in 2009 in a victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Freshman Taylor Whileyman continued her strong play this weekend as she led all participants with eight kills. The Richmond, Texas native also tallied two aces, two digs and one block. Jessica Nagy was terrific in many aspects of her performance as she tied a season-high with six aces, tallied seven kills and also added six digs in the contest. Junior outside hitter Lindsey Barron had six kills on just eight attempts, finishing with a hitting percentage of .750.

The Braves, who managed just nine kills in the contest on 53 attempts were led by Jasmine Jones’ three kill, two dig effort.

The Sugar Bears return to action on Thursday for a league bout with Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
