Sugar Bears Drop Final Match of Magnolia Invitational to Ole Miss

Taylor Hammonds recorded seven kills and three blocks against Ole Miss on Saturday.

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team could not carry Friday’s success over to Saturday as they fell in straight sets to Ole Miss 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13.

In the match, the Rebels out-hit the Sugar Bears .267 to .078, had a 51-36 digs advantage and also posted two more total blocks and service aces.

UCA (3-6) was paced by seven kills apiece from Taylor Hammonds and Taylor Whileyman. Marissa Collins collected 23 assists and seven digs.

Ole Miss (4-4) was led to victory by Regina Thomas’ 11 kills and five blocks. Allegra Wells added 10 kills and Morgan Springer and Ashley Veach had 14 and 10 digs respectively.

UCA returns to action this Thursday at 7 p.m. when they open up Southland conference play at Northwestern State. The match with Northwestern State is the first of three at the Holiday Inn Express Tournament in Natchitoches, La. The Sugar Bears will square off with Arkansas State on Friday before wrapping up tournament play with Alcorn State on Saturday.
