CONWAY, Ark. - Freshman third baseman Tarra Underhill hit two home runs and sophomore pitcher Kelsie Armstrong threw a four-hit shutout as Central Arkansas won their season finale 6-0 against Sam Houston State at Farris Field on Sunday. The Bears finish the season with a 26-30 overall record, tied for the second most wins in season history. They also finish the year 12-18 in Southland play. The Bearkats fall to 22-32 and 14-15.
UCA senior first baseman Shay Ristau led off the second with a base hit and Underhill blasted a shot over the bullpen in left field to go up 2-0. Ristau led off the fourth with a walk and Underhill hit another two-run homer, her fourth of the season. Underhill became the 10th player in the school history to hit two home runs in the same game.
Junior designated player Katie McGregor drove in freshman Kelvon Greer with a single up the middle in the fifth. The Bears tacked on one more run in the sixth when Underhill walked and scored on a pinch hit single by junior Kelley Martino.
On the day, Underhill went 2-for-2 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Armstrong (16-19) picked up her sixth shutout of the season as she struck out four and allowed just one walk. Bearkat starter Courtney Schoenenmann (3-9) allowed four runs, four hits and two walks in 3.1 innings in the losing effort. Reliever Shelby Lancaster gave up three hits, two runs and one walk in 2.2 innings.
With the Bears' seven hits on Sunday, they set a new school record with 406 hits on the season.
