#15 OKLAHOMA USES LONG BALL TO TOP UCA

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Central Arkansas softball team gave up home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to break open a tied game against #15 Oklahoma at the OU Softball Complex on Tuesday night. The Sooners (28-9) outhit the Bears (12-20) 10-5, moving UCA's record to 1-1 against Top 25 teams this season.

With two outs in the top of the first inning, Bear first baseman Kasey Britt singled and was driven in on a double from junior catcher Melanie Bryant. Bryant scored on a error by Sooner shortstop Javen Henson, giving UCA an early 2-0 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, left fielder Chana'e Jones singled and reached second after Desitnee Martinez reached on a UCA error. Second baseman Brianna Turang drove in Jones with an infield single and right fielder Haley Nix hit a two-run double, giving the Sooners a 3-2 advantage.

UCA tied the game in the fourth when freshman third baseman Tarra Underhill singled, and was lifted for freshman pinch runner Ashlynn Tovar, who stole second. Tovar later scored from third on a base hit by sophomore center fielder Candice Gauntt.

Designated player Katie Norris hit a two-run homer in the fourth to put OU up 5-3. Shortstop Ali Vandever added a three-run blast in the sixth for the 8-3 victory.

Turang and Norris had two hits each to lead the Sooners. Britt had two hits for the Bears.

OU reliever Keilani Ricketts (16-5) earned the win by striking out five and allowing a walk in 3.1 innings of relief. Sophomore Kelsie Armstrong (8-13) struck out three while giving up five earned runs and a walk in the six-inning loss.

UCA will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a double-header at Farris Field on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
