MAVS TOP BEARS 3-2

Sophomore Preslie Long hit a home run and scored twice against UTA on Sunday
CONWAY, Ark. - After splitting a double-header on Saturday, UT Arlington came out on top over Central Arkansas by the score of 3-2 in Southland Conference softball action at Farris Field on Sunday. The Mavericks (20-12, 7-2) outhit the Bears (11-16, 4-5) 9-7 in the rubber game.

UTA scored all three runs in the top of the first when shortstop Courtney Enocksen hit a three-run homer off of UCA junior starter Cami Newsome.

UCA cut the lead to 3-1 when sophomore shortstop Preslie Long led off the third with a solo blast over the fence in right center.

The Bears threatened in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore pinch hitter Lindsey Barsoum led the inning off with a bunt single. With one out, junior pinch hitter Katie McGregor hit a ball up the middle, moving Barsoum to third. Long ran for McGregor and stole second, setting up runners on second and third with one out for freshman Kelvon Greer.

Greer hit bunted back to pitcher Callie Collins, who threw Barsoum out at home for the second out. Long scored and Greer reached second base on a double steal to make the game 3-2. Junior right fielder Nicole Beals grounded out to third baseman Taylor Zink for the final out of the game.

Beals led UCA with two hits. Long hit the home run and scored twice. Enocksen drove in three with a home run and double. First baseman Rebecca Collom also had two hits for UTA.

Collins (12-3) struck out four and gave up seven hits and two runs in the complete game win. Newsome (3-4) allowed four hits and three runs in one plus innings in the loss. Bears sophomore Kelsie Armstrong struck out two and allowed five hits and a walk in six scoreless innings.

UCA will begin a five-game road stretch on Thursday with at Centenary.
