BEARS SHUT DOWN DEVILETTES

Sophomore catcher Melanie Bryant hit a home run against Mississippi Valley State
CONWAY, Ark. - Sophomore Kelsie Armstrong struck out 10 and threw a three-hitter as the University of Central Arkansas softball team blanked Mississippi Valley State 6-0 at Farris Field on Wednesday afternoon. It was the seventh career shutout for Armstrong, as she only allowed four Devilettes (5-6) in seven innings.

The Bears (7-10) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth one three hits and an error. Junior Kasey Britt had the big hit of the inning, knocking in Kelvon Greer and Preslie Long with a base hit up the middle. Sophomore catcher Melanie Bryant hit a solo home run over the left field fence to lead off the fifth to give UCA a 4-0 lead.

In the sixth, Greer and Britt had back-to-back doubles to make the game 5-0. Junior designated player Katie McGregor followed with a single, scoring Britt for the final run of the game.

Britt finished with two hits and three runs drive in. Greer went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. McGregor and senior Shay Ristau had two hits each.

MVSU pitcher Devyn Pearl (1-2) allowed 11 hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out one.

UCA will start Southland Conference play at McNeese State this weekend. The series will start with a double-header on Saturday in Lake Charles, La.
