CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas softball team will step out of conference play when Ole Miss comes to Farris Field at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bears (10-13) have turned things around going 7-3 in their last 10 games after starting the season 3-10.
The Rebels (9-18) have gone 2-6 in their last eight games and were swept in three-game series at Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina over the weekend.
UCA sophomore catcher Melanie Bryant and junior first baseman Kasey Britt have been ranked near the top of the Southland Conference leaderboard in several offensive categories.
Bryant, a native of Hernando, Miss., leads the league with a .466 batting average, six home runs and 56 total bases, tied for second with 34 hits and tied for seventh with 19 RBI. She also has a 13-game hitting streak, which is tied for the third longest in school history.
Britt, from Florence, Miss., is fourth in the Southland with a .420 batting average and is fifth with 29 hits. She also leads the league with 14 doubles, six more than second place and only three away from UCA's single-season record.
In the circle, sophomore Kelsie Armstrong is fourth in the league with a 1.91 ERA and 86 strikeouts.
Sophomore Brittany Broome leads Ole Miss with a .379 batting average. Senior Brittany Barnhill has three home runs with 15 RBI. Pitcher Lindsey Perry has a 6-3 record with a 2.48 ERA and 60 strikeouts.
