CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas safety Jestin Love was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, and also garnerd College Sporting News All-Star recognition as well.
Love, a sophomore from West Memphis, had nine solo tackles, forced a fumble, had two pass breakups and returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown in the Bears’ 38-24 victory over the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday.
Love is now tied for the lead in the SLC in interceptions with four. The reigning SLC Co-Freshman of the Year has 10 career interceptions in just over 1 1/2 years of action. Love has returned three interceptions for touchdowns, including a 98-yarder against Nicholls State last season.
Love was UCA’s fifth conference Player of the Week this season.
UCA hosts Southeastern Louisiana at 6 p.m. Saturday for Homecoming at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.
