Sugar Bears Cruise Past UAPB, 3-0

Karlie Giesler recorded five kills and five digs in Wednesday's victory over UAPB.
PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The UCA volleyball team stepped out of conference for the second consecutive time this week and cruised to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-13) victory over the UAPB Golden Lions Wednesday night in Pine Bluff. The match was also the second straight road match after playing the previous five matches at the Prince Center.

Much like the last time the Sugar Bears and Golden Lions squared off, UCA’s defense smothered UAPB, holding them to a hitting percentage right at .000. Meanwhile, the Sugar Bears used a .358 effort to help roll to their 13th win of the 2011 season.

Taylor Hammonds paced UCA and led all participants with 10 kills. She did so on just 16 attacks while being guilty of just one error. Karlie Giesler, Kyle Hartman, Alicia Dittrich and Taylor Whileyman each had five kills apiece and Jessica Nagy and Lindsey Barron both finished with four kills.

Two Sugar Bears concluded the evening with double-digit assist efforts. Senior Lauren Dear led the way, chalking up 16 assists and sophomore Marissa Collins added 10. Defensively, Cristin Curl led all players with 13 digs.

UAPB (4-10) was led with four kills from Rachel Tims and four other Golden Lions that added three kills each. Two of those players, Lorin Johnson and Alicia Campbell, also added nine and eight digs respectively.

UCA will remain on the road this weekend as they travel to San Marcos, Texas to take on Texas State. The Bobcats will enter the match winners of their last eight. This season, they own a 17-6 overall record and an 8-1 mark in Southland play. Match time Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
