UCA VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA

CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team swept Southeastern Louisiana 25-15, 25-17, 25-14 in Southland Conference action at the Prince Center on Thursday night. With the win, the Sugar Bears improve their record to 13-6 overall and 4-0 in league play. They also extend their SLC winning streak to 26 matches and their home streak to 23 straight, both of which date back to 2008. The Lady Lions fall to 9-11 overall and 1-3.

UCA started off by hitting a scorching .417 in the first set, connecting on 12 kills and only making two errors. SLU had eight kills, but only hit .107. Sugar Bear freshman Karlie Giesler paced UCA with four kills in the opening frame. Senior right side Chloe Smith recorded five of the Sugar Bears' 15 kills in set two, en route to a 25-17 victory. Junior outside hitter Jessica Hays hit .778 and threw down seven kills on nine chances in the third set, as UCA wrapped up the match 25-14.

For the match, the Sugar Bears hit .326 and tallied 42 kills, while the Lady Lions hit .095 with 19 kills. UCA also had a big advantage with 11 service aces, compared to just two for SLU.

Hays led Central Arkansas with 12 kills and Smith had 10. Sophomore middle blocker Taylor Hammonds hit .571 with eight kills and Giesler added another seven. Freshman setter Marissa Collins recorded her third double-double of the season with 32 assists and 10 digs.

Freshman middle blocker Kinsey Williams led the Lady Lions with six kills and Taylor Buckner had nine digs.

UCA will continue Southland Conference play against Nicholls on Saturday. The match will begin at 2 p.m. in the Prince Center.
