CONWAY — Central Arkansas saw its winning streak come to an end at three games on Sunday, suffering a 3-0 loss to SIU Edwardsville at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
The Bears (4-4-1) surrendered three goals to the Cougars (6-2-1) in a span of just more than five minutes, all to SIUE freshman forward Meagan Iffrig for her first career hat trick.
Iffrig broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute when she knocked in a shot from Kristen Dailey that UCA goalkeeper Kelsey Gochnauer had deflected. After scoring again less than a minute later, Iffrig added her third goal in the 57th minute – taking a cross from Dailey and putting it in the net from six yards out.
The Cougars had 16 shots and 10 on goal compared to just three and two for the Bears.
Claire Lovercheck had two saves in goal for SIUE before being pulled in the 83rd minute. Gochnauer had seven saves in the loss for UCA.
The Bears begin Southland Conference play on Friday, hosting Sam Houston State at 4 p.m. Stephen F. Austin comes to Conway on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
