CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team wrapped up the 2010 Sugar Bear Classic with a four-set victory over Jackson State at the Prince Center on Saturday afternoon. The Sugar Bears (9-6) downed the Lady Tigers (3-9) 25-11, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15 for their 19th consecutive home victory, dating back to 2008.
UCA outhit JSU .176 to -.025 and had a 54-21 kills advantage. The Sugar Bears served up 11 aces, compared to just two for the Lady Tigers, but Jackson won the battle at the net, outblocking UCA 11-9.
UCA sophomore middle blocker Taylor Hammonds, the tournament's MVP, hit .500 with nine kills and six blocks. Junior outside hitter Jessica Hays recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs. All-tournament team selection Chloe Smith had 14 kills and four aces and senior Chloe Evans came up with a season-best 15 digs. Freshman setter Marissa Collins, also an all-tournament selection, had 42 assists and four aces.
Chyna Coleman and Krishauna Kindall had four kills each for the Lady Tigers. Paige Matthews had nine blocks and Teri Braddock came up with 26 digs.
UCA will host Sam Houston State for a Southland Conference match on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
