MISSOURI EDGES OUT UCA

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team fell just short to Missouri in three sets on Saturday morning to open the second day of the WKU Tournament. The Tigers, who received votes in this week's AVCA Top 25 poll, edged out the Sugar Bears 25-21, 26-24, 25-17. Mizzou improves to 8-1 on the season, while UCA drops to 6-5.

The Sugar Bears started the match with a 7-1 lead. The Tigers responded and eventually tied the game at 13-13 and took control, winning 25-21.

In the second set, the Sugar Bears trailed 17-15 before going on a 8-3 run, to take a 23-20 lead. The Tigers fought off the rally and to tie the game at 23-23 after a UCA error. The Sugar Bears had set point after a Tiger attack error, but Missouri once again took advantage of a pair of Sugar Bear errors to win the set 26-24. Central Arkansas outhit Mizzou in the second set, and had a 17-14 kills advantage, but the Sugar Bears committed more errors.

The Tigers ended the match with a decisive 25-17 third set.

Freshman middle blocker Jessica Nagy continued her impressive tournament run with 14 kills and a .650 hitting percentage. Junior Jessica Hays recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Junior libero Cristin Curl came up with 21 digs and freshman setter Marissa Collins had 37 assists.

Paola Ampudia led Mizzou with 10 kills and Caitlyn Vann had 12 digs.

UCA will wrap up the tournament with host Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
