CONWAY — Central Arkansas surrendered an early goal and then two in the second half as they fell 3-0 to UALR at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex in Conway on Wednesday.
The Bears (1-2) fell behind in the 9th minute when UALR’s Kristen Semko headed in a cross from Racheal Maina. After nearly 56 minutes of scoreless play the Trojans (1-3) struck again, turning a corner kick into a Taylor Gabbert goal in the 65th minute.
Christina Veasley, the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year, added UALR’s final goal in the 88th minute off a corner kick by Semko.
UCA’s attack was held in check throughout the match as the Bears were able to attempt just six shots with sophomore Elizabeth Brady getting the lone shot on goal, which was kept out of the net by UALR keeper Jane Picarelli.
The Trojans recorded 14 shots in the match, and UCA goalkeeper Kelsey Gochnauer recorded six saves as UALR registered nine shots on frame. UALR also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bears will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take on Southern on Friday then return home for a Sunday meeting with Lipscomb at 1 p.m.
